Black Walnut Year Round

Butternut Year Round
Similar to Black Walnut but very soft and not abundant x



Eastern White Pine (clear and knotty) Sold as clear or “knotty” x



Grey Elm Year Round
Used for appearance and structural, not abundant x



Hard Maple

Species sold in subsets:  rustic, rift / quarter sawn, brown / natural, Birdseye, curly figured x x x x x
Hickory / Pecan Winter Months
Commonly referred to as Hickory -- this group of species sold as rustic and “calico” x x

Not abundant, sold for appearance and high luster x



Red Oak

Large species group sold as clear, rift / quarter sawn, rustic x x x x x
Soft Maple

Year Round

Commonly broken out between two subset species: Red Maple and Silver Maple.  Red Maple being the most desired.  Often substituted for Hard Maple or as low cost Cherry stain alternative x x x x
White Ash

Year Round

(Less available in the spring)

Low cost wood with many uses / substitutions.  Currently under scrutiny and availability is decreasing due to Emerald Ash Borer contamination. x x x x
White Birch

Year Round

Short,narrow yielded lumber sold for “white” and paint applications x



White Oak

Year Round

Species group sold as clear, rift / quarter sawn, rustic x x x x x
Yellow Birch

Year Round

Sold for natural color, clear “white” and as Red Birch for a high percentage of heartwood x
